This seminar/workshop is for all who are caring for or working with young people or adults on the autism spectrum. Teachers in secondary or tertiary education, whether mainstream or specialist, social workers, mental health workers, parents and carers will benefit from the information and insight into what can be problematic issues around puberty, sexuality and the needs and difficulties common in adolescence and early adulthood. Helpful approaches and management are discussed as well as the variety of outcomes and lifestyles for adults with ASD. Jenny Ronayne is the trainer for this day.

Dr Patrizia Collard takes this one-day seminar and workshop. Dr Collard is joined by Chris Mitchell, a man with Asperger’s syndrome and author of Asperger's Syndrome and Mindfulness. Mindfulness is a therapeutic method which can be used for children, young people and adults with or without ASD. Mindfulness based interventions have been used in clinical settings since the 1980’s and there is supporting research evidence that practising mindful intervention can help relieve stress, anxiety, anger, and obsessive and phobic behaviours. Special focus is given to helping parents and professionals stay emotionally balanced when working with or caring for this client group. Therapists may find the techniques demonstrated in this workshop/seminar useful additions to their practice. This seminar and workshop is for all who work with and/or care for someone with ASD and for anyone who is interested in using Mindfulness for the benefit of individuals with ASD.

This seminar/workshop is for all who work with or care for children and young people with learning disabilities. Parents, carers, teachers, social workers, community nurses and mental health workers will benefit from the information which will include how learning disability is defined and assessed. The association between learning disabilities and autism will be considered as will how children with learning disabilities might present with other mental health problem. Management strategies will be discussed. The role of educational and social care provision will also be considered. Sarah Bernard is the trainer for the day.

The day looks at

* Common causes of learning disabilities

This seminar focuses on the principles of understanding and managing behaviours presented by children and young people on the autistic spectrum with and without additional learning difficulties. Who should attend: parents and all professionals whose work brings them into contact with children and young people with ASD. The morning teaching session is followed by a workshop where real-life case studies are discussed and appropriate strategies considered. The trainer is Dr Katingo Giannoulis.

This seminar explains the difficulties experienced by students and the problematic issues that arise for teachers and support staff. Chris Mitchell, an adult with Asperger’s syndrome, and Jenny Ronayne, look at how best to support the ASD pupil in primary and secondary education. This seminar/workshop offers an excellent grounding in ASD for everyone who works with or cares for children, young people or adults with ASD, either in their professional capacity as teachers, social workers, healthcare professionals, professional carers, youth workers, law enforcement professionals or who are parents of someone with ASD.
