This seminar/workshop is for all who work with or care for children and young people with learning disabilities. Parents, carers, teachers, social workers, community nurses and mental health workers will benefit from the information which will include how learning disability is defined and assessed. The association between learning disabilities and autism will be considered as will how children with learning disabilities might present with other mental health problem. Management strategies will be discussed. The role of educational and social care provision will also be considered. Sarah Bernard is the trainer for the day.

The day looks at

* The assessment and diagnosis of learning disabilities
* Common causes of learning disabilities
* Autism and learning disabilities
* Management strategies (Behaviour? Medication? Other?)
* Other mental health problems including ADHD, behavioural disturbance, depression
* The role of education/social services
* Transition to adulthood
