This seminar/workshop offers an excellent grounding in ASD for everyone who works with or cares for children, young people or adults with ASD, either in their professional capacity as teachers, social workers, healthcare professionals, professional carers, youth workers, law enforcement professionals or who are parents of someone with ASD. The trainer is Jenny Ronayne and the day covers:

* What is ASD and how to recognise it
* Causes, prevalence and gender distribution
* Communication issues
* Differences in thinking
* Social anxiety and difficulties
* Sensory issues
* Stress, frustration and anger
* Strategies to help support the person with ASD
* Strategies to help manage and avert problematic behaviour
* Strategies to help improve communication and understanding
* Strategies to maximise strengths
* Positive attributes typical of ASD

The aim of the day is to enable attendees to gain an understanding of the needs and difficulties of individuals with ASD, to learn about useful and appropriate strategies for support and management and to acquire greater confidence in working with and caring for people with ASD.
